Userkaf's Mortuary temple is located on the south side of the pyramid. This is very unusual has it located on the east or north side side on all preceding pyramids. It is generally believed by Egyptologist that it located here because it is the only solid ground which it could be constructed. The Userkaf complex is very near the trench of Djoser's complex and putting the mortuary temple on the east would require filling in the trench. The temple is almost completely destroyed although some basalt floor slabs can still be seen. Some pink granite blocks with the cartouche of Userkaf are scattered about.
